Night Prayer: Week 2

Season of Easter

All stand and make sign of cross

Prayer Leader:

God, come to our assistance.

Response:

Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit:

as it was in the beginning, is now,

and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.

Prayer Leader:

We pause for a moment to reflect on our day,

bringing to mind where we could have trusted in God

and allowed the Holy Spirit to work through us,

so that we could have been more Christ like.

Penitential Rite

Brief moment of silence to examine our day.

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

All strike their breast

through my fault, through my fault,

through my most grievous fault;

therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Prayer Leader:

May almighty God have mercy on us,

forgive us our sins, and bring

us to everlasting life.

Amen.

Hymn of Gratitude:

Jesus Christ Is Risen Today

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!

Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!

Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!

Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!

Unto Christ, our heav’nly King, Alleluia!

Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!

Sinners to redeem and save! Alleluia!

Go tell all his brethren dear, Alleluia!

“He is risen; he’s not here! Alleluia!

Seek him not among the dead, Alleluia!

He is risen just as he said!” Alleluia!

Antiphon 1

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Psalm 96

God is here; God is now!

It is a time for celebration!

Our praises need not be confined to old songs.

Nor need we great organs or massive choirs

            to honor God’s name

Let us create new songs of praise to our God.

Let us discover new ways of proclaiming

God’s greatness and glory.

The elements about us reflect God’s majesty.

The roaring sea and all that inhabits it,

the wind that bends the trees,

the creatures that fill the air and land,

the mountains that probe our skies,

the rivers and lakes that slake our thirst,

the great planets and stars

that light up our night –

all these reveal God’s beauty and splendor.

And out of this comes that fashioned

by our minds and hands:

rockets and computers,

art, architecture, music, literature.

Wherever one turns,

God’s power is manifested,

God’s presence is made apparent.

Let us celebrate God’s presence

In our world today.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now,

and will be for ever.

Amen.

Antiphon 1
