Night Prayer: Week 3
Season of Ordinary Time
All stand and make sign of cross
Prayer Leader:
God, come to our assistance.
Response:
Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
Prayer Leader:
We pause for a moment to reflect on our day,
bringing to mind where we could have trusted in God
and allowed the Holy Spirit to work through us,
so that we could have been more Christ like.
Penitential Rite
Brief moment of silence to examine our day.
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
All strike their breast
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Prayer Leader:
May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins, and bring
us to everlasting life.
Amen.
Hymn of Gratitude:
Now It is Evening
Now it is evening: Lights of the city
Bid us remember Christ is our Light.
Many are lonely, who will be neighbor?
Where there is caring Christ is our Light.
Now it is evening: Little ones sleeping
Bid us remember Christ is our Peace.
Some are neglected, who will be neighbor?
Where there is caring Christ is our Peace.
Now it is evening: Food on the table
Bids us remember Christ is our Life.
Many are hungry, who will be neighbor?
Where there is sharing Christ is our Life.
Now it is evening: Here in our meeting
May we remember Christ is our Friend.
Some may be strangers, who will be neighbor?
Where there’s a welcome Christ is our Friend.
Antiphon 1
In You, my God, my body will rest in hope.
Psalm 58
My heart grieves, O Lord,
Over the leaders of this world
who play god with the lives of people.
With clever twisting of half truths
they gather followers into their folds
and manipulate them
into carrying out their purposes.
They blind the people’s personal conscience
and responsibility
and enslave them to the wishes
and ambitions of the state
Then there are the starry-eyes mystics
who assume they are God’s special gift to humanity
and who, through devious tricks or inscrutable gifts,
create their little cults of loyal disciples.
You shall have the last word, O God,
and those who take Your place,
or who stand in Your way
as You seek to draw us to Yourself,
will be subjected to You.
You are my God, almighty and eternal.
Forbid, O God, that I should ever turn from You.
to follow the false shepherds of this world.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever.
Amen.
Antiphon 1
In You, my God, my body will rest in hope.

Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake;
watch over us as we sleep,
that awake, we may keep watch with Christ,
and asleep, rest in his peace.
Now, O God, let your servant go.
Let me go in peace according to Your Word.
For my eyes behold your saving work:
A light for all the world, alleluia.
Now, O God, let your servant go.
Let me go in peace according to Your Word.
For my eyes behold your saving work:
A light for all the world, alleluia.
